KEJOHANAN SENI MEMPERTAHANKAN DIRI KEBANGSAAN 2010

ITF Sarawak had sent 10 exponents to the recent Kejohanan Seni Mempertahankan Diri Kebangsaan 2010 held from 22nd – 25th July 2010 at Ipoh, Perak. A total of nine medals, (5 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze) had been grabbed by the team during the two days championship, putting ITF Sarawak at second placing in overall medal tally after the champion, Perak. Taekwon-Do ITF was one of the five martial arts discipline sent by Jabatan Belia Dan Sukan Sarawak. Others were the Wushu, Shito-Ryu Karate, Seni Silat Gayong and Taekwon-Do MGTF. According to the ITF Sarawak team manager, Jeffrey Wee, this year championship was very challenging as most of the exponents from other states were experience exponents. Furthermore, ITF Sarawak team this year comprised of mostly first timer in this championship. They had put all their efforts and sweats in this victory. Although they were first timers, they did well in their performance and most of them shown outstanding and unexpected performance.
ITF Sarawak grabbed the gold medals through Lawrence Chai (Male Individual Pattern), Isaac Chai, Delton Sako and Johnny Bong (Male Team Pattern), Michelle Loo (Female Light Weight Free Sparring), Isaac Chai (Male Middle Weight Free Sparring) and Lee Puay Kian (Male Hyper Weight Free Sparring). The silver medals were from Ruby Chong (Female Individual Pattern), Michelle Loo, Dayang Adhwaridha and Joyce Leli (Female Team Pattern) and Female Self-Defense Drama. The only bronze was from the Male Self-Defense Drama.
ITF Sarawak had been put at Hotel Majestic, Ipoh together with the other martials arts discipline from the same state. The JBS Perak, had shown their good hospitality by providing the contingent with food and transportation as well as accommodation. The team manager would like to extend his gratitude on behalf ITF Sarawak for their good help and hospitality while their stay in Ipoh. Not to forget, the Jabatan Belia Dan Sukan Sarawak, for being kind to the members by sponsoring the tracksuits and transportation as well as the team welfare during the whole trip to Ipoh, Perak. We hope that, this will be a valuable experience for all the members to be excelled in more upcoming championship in future. The team would like to extend their greatest gratitude to Mr. Francis Ting (Legal Advisor of ITF Sarawak) for sponsoring them with one set of uniforms each. Not to forget the committee of Sarawak Taekwon-Do Association ITF for their support and advices.

ITF Grade Level Description Belt System
Grade Level Description
10th grade White - Signifies innocence, as that of the beginning student who has no previous knowledge of Taekwon-Do.
8th grade Yellow - Signifies the earth from which a plant sprouts and takes root as the foundation of Taekwon-Do is being laid.
6th grade Green - Signifies the plant's growth as Taekwon-Do skills begin to develop.
4th grade Blue - Signifies the Heaven towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Taekwon-Do progresses.
2nd grade Red - Signifies Danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the opponent to stay away.
1st Dan - 9 Dan Black Belt- Opposite of white, therefore signifying maturity and proficiency in Taekwon-Do; also indicates the wearer's imperviousness to darkness and fear.
