ITF Sarawak Christmas Charity Project 24 December 2009

Charity Report 2009

On the 24th of December 2009, a few of our Green Road committee members, together with Ah Sir & Madam visited the Salvation Army and Kota Sentosa Hospital as part of our yearly charity programme.

We started off at 9 in the morning at the Salvation Army. A brief introduction about Taekwon -Do was given by Mr Lawrence Chai, and followed by our demonstration. A mixed team pattern was performed by Ms. Ruby Chong, Ms. Crystal Teo, Ms. Emily Chong, Mr. Patrick Chai and Mr. Douglas Bong, using Hwa Wrang Tul. Next was the one-step-sparring, which was performed by Ms. Crystal Teo and Mr. Douglas Bong. The children showed their impression by cheering whenever Douglas did the flippings. The third item of the demonstration was power breaking by Mr. Patrick Chai. He performed a flying side kick by jumping over a pyramid of six people. Lastly, it was the sparring match between Mr. Lee Puay Kian and Mr. Chin Ka How.

After the demonstration, we gave presents to all the children present there. Besides that, we also gave newly bought uniforms which was needed by them. A total amount of RM_____ was used to buy all these presents.

Next, we drove off to Kota Sentosa Hospital. Upon reaching there, the patients greeted all of us warmly and even shook hands with us. A few of our members were reluctant at the beginning, for it was a first time for them. However, we all managed to warm with them soon after. We were then guided to a hall which is often used by them for performances and other occasions. There, all the patients were sited, and we sang Christmas songs with accompanying musical instruments by Ms. Ruby Chong, Mr. Patrick Chai and Mr. George Chong (Ruby’s father). The songs that were sung are ‘Joy to the world’, ‘When a child is born’, ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ and ‘Feliz Navidad’. All the patients cheered at the end of the performance. After that, we toured around the hospital and exchanged warm Christmas greetings with the patients. Lastly, we all took a group photo in front of the hospital as a token of treasure.

This charity programme has touched all of our hearts and we learnt to appreciate what we have and also realise how lucky we are. We hope to come together again and are all looking forward for the next charity programme.
